Defending Champion Penguins Pushed to Brink of Elimination
Saving the games in the capital of Washington - and perhaps the decisive advantage in the playoffs - was the result of a 22-year-old recruit not burdened with torture in the history of the organization's post-season. Jakub Vrana was 2 years old, when the last time the capital passed the second round. He was a scratch in the first round of this postseason. He hardly saw the ice at the beginning of this series. He was a hero on Saturday night.
In the related third period, Vrana followed Alex Ovechkin on the ice, and after Ovechkin descended to the right of the Pittsburgh Penguins player, Matt Murray, in order to get him out of the position, Ovechkin easily put a pass into the slot for Vrana who knocked the puck into the wide open net , as if it was not important. He tried to maintain this composure when he stood in front of the reporters in the locker room after the game, but then showed youth and abundance, which made him an important part of this "Capital" team.
In just 52 seconds before the third period Kuznetsov patted the wings. He collected a pass from Vran in the neutral zone, and the top protective pair of Pittsburgh found themselves in a quandary, Kuznetsov got a lead, beating Murray, punching his legs with his hands. Then, at a celebration that had not been seen since the "Capitals" played the last place in the penguins, Kuznetsov lifted one leg and imitated the bird, waving his arms up and down.
But even playing forward, the capitals demonstrated fault tolerance, which they did not see in the past postseason. It started with goalkeeper Braden Holtby, who made 28 saves in two periods. He saved a point shot by defender Brian Dumulina, and this led to the fact that Vrana and Ovechkin rushed up the ice to win the game.
Both Trotz and Ovechkin admitted that the top line should be better after she fought in Game 4, only in the third playoff game in Ovechkin's career, in which he did not record a single shot on goal. He corrected that on the first Saturday shift, putting the first puck on the net in the game with a wrist shot 15 feet in front of the net. Murray saved him, and the momentum seemed to give preference to the penguins when Conor Sheri showed Holtby as a point shot by quarterback Jamie Oleksiak scored 2:23 in the game.
Ovechkin finished three shots at goal by the end of the first period, and it was his presence that allowed the capitals to link the score. Pittsburgh Dominic Simon was whistled for an offensive in the offensive zone, and from a penalty Penguins killed Ovechkin's shading, defender John Carlson had plenty of room when he tore the shot past Murray's glove.
But Washington's assassination seems to have missed Wilson, who was suspended from playing three games after illegally checking into the head in the third series of the series, and since the Capitals inflicted noxious fines - having hooked and defeating minors Ovechkin and two violations of the rules by Devante Smith-Palley - Penguins have received four direct opportunities for a person. They scored two of them to take 3-2 in the second intermission, and the captains were lucky that he struck only 40 minutes. During the second period, Pittsburgh dropped out of Washington 18-5.
The capitals seemed soft after their loss in Game 4, and Trotsz refused any changes in his lineup. But, as the Capitals were far from being pushed to the brink of liquidation, Trots began to make adjustments. Then he moved Vran to the first line with Ovechkin and Kuznetsov.
Less than a minute before the third period, Vran's pass pushed Kuznetsov to the gap, a goal related to the game. Then he soon won the game.
"There is a lot of faith in this room," Oshi said. "We know the story. We know what happened to us in the past. But right now we have a lot of faith and a lot of trust in each other. "
